Some places have "Fish Fry Friday" or "Two for One Tuesday". Our household now has "Try to Die Tuesday". At least that is the new name which I have bestowed on Tuesdays in reference to my aquarium. After a couple months of cycling with live rock, I finally started to put livestock into my saltwater aquarium about 2 months ago... I started with half a dozen hermit crabs, then added a pair of clown fish. Then, about 2 weeks ago, I added an anemone. Everything seemed to be going fine for a few days... Last Monday I fed the anemone for the first time since he had come home with me. He seemed to eat fine... I woke up on Tuesday and thought he was almost dead. He was shriveled up, and very pitiful looking. I was certain the poor thing was going to die. Fortunately, my husband and I were off from work that day and were able to spend the day giving the anemone lots of TLC. By Tuesday night he was starting to perk up a little, and by Wednesday morning looked much better! My husband and I were SO happy that we saved the anemone, and everything was seeming to go well in my aquarium again.
Then... Tuesday came along again... This past Tuesday I woke up and my female clown fish was acting strangely- lethargic, breathing heavily. "Seriously?!" I thought. I checked her for any spots that looked like ich, or any of the other marine diseases I'm familiar with... nothing obvious. I tried giving her a hyposaline dip to see if that would help, but no luck. The guy from the fish store said that maybe a cleaner shrimp with pick off any parasites or anything that might be making the fish ill, so I bought one... The shrimp died within a couple hours, and never got near the sickly fish. Later that night I finally ended up taking my poor fish from her mate to put her into quarantine with some copper based fish meds.
Thankfully, she seems to have made a full recovery and is back in the main tank. However, her and the male clown- who were previously inseparable- are now acting like they don't know each other. But, everyone seems healthy now, including the replacement cleaner shrimp. So, all is well... until Tuesday...
